Phoenix Lanka began as a family mission — bringing the ancient art of sesame cultivation and cold-pressing to a global audience, one pure drop at a time.

Where It All Began

From a Single Sesame Field

Phoenix Lanka was born in the sun-drenched plains of Kirindiwela, where sesame (Sesamum indicum) has been cultivated for over 2,000 years. Our founder, watching his grandmother grind sesame seeds by hand into golden oil, knew this tradition deserved to reach the world.

The name Phoenix Lanka comes from the Sinhala word for "sister" — a tribute to the women of the hill country who have long been the guardians of this craft, passing knowledge silently from hand to hand across generations.

What began as a small family press in Kirindiwela in 2018 has grown into a proud enterprise serving customers across Sri Lanka and beyond — every bottle still cold-pressed, every batch still made with the same uncompromising care.

Every bottle is cold-pressed at low temperature using traditional stone mills. No heat, no solvents — just the patient process that produces the finest sesame oil.

Every part of the sesame seed is used. Seeds become oil and tahini. The meal becomes livestock feed. The husks become compost. Nothing is wasted.

The First Batch
Our founder cold-presses the first batch of sesame oil from his family's field in Kirindiwela using a restored stone mill, distributing to local markets and home cooks.

Growing the Family
Twelve farming families join the network. The Phoenix range expands to include tahini, black sesame oil, roasted sesame paste and the first gift sets.

Going Online
Phoenix Lanka launches island-wide delivery. The natural food community in Colombo embraces the brand and orders surge from health-conscious urban families.

2023
International Reach
Phoenix Lanka products reach Australia, the UK, UAE and Canada. Our sesame oil earns a listing with a major UK natural foods importer.

The New Chapter
A refreshed brand, a new website and an expanded range — still cold-pressed, still stone-milled, still guided by the values our grandfather believed in.

The People Behind Phoenix Lanka

Small Team,
Big Heart

We are a team of fifteen — farmers, pressers, packers and dreamers — spread across Kirindiwela and Colombo. Our farmers tend the sesame fields through the dry season, harvesting by hand at peak ripeness to preserve the oil's natural flavour.

In Colombo, our small kitchen team hand-rolls toffees, portions jaggery blocks, and crafts each gift box with care. Every product that leaves our hands carries the story of the person who made it.
